Phil Hellmuth Versus Daniel Negreanu HighStakesDuel Rematch Date Set

Daniel Negreanu will have his chance for revenge next month, round 2 of his HighStakes Duel with Phil Hellmuth slated for May 5th with a $100k buy-in  this time round.

Hellmuth mounted an incredible comeback in round 1 to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, a 19-1 chip deficit overturned to bag him the win and $50k Sit and Go-style match.

The Poker Brat’s ‘White Magic’ has now seen him win four games on the bounce, with three wins against Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari netting him $350k, the stakes doubling with each match.

Negreanu will be hoping to reverse the opening result, even if only to justify his Twitter pillorying of Hellmuth’s ‘legacy’ that spawned the match.

The GGPoker ambassador had poked Phil with several tweets, one of which claimed: “Not a single cash in the modern era of high stakes tourneys. Not one.”

He added: “Phil is decent in low and mid stakes tournaments, but on the major league high roller circuit, he cannot win. He may have been a GOAT of his era, but that era is long gone.”

That came back to haunt Negreanu, who has had a costly year so far in the highstakes heads-up arenas, losing $1.2million to Doug Polk in their epic ‘Grudge Match of the Century’.

Although Hellmuth and Negreanu are yet to stoop to the public slanging level of that fiery encounter, the duo are heading in the ‘right’ direction, Hellmuth going on a rant midway through round 1 and calling  Negreanu an “idiot”.

With the pair set to battle it out again live in the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas in just a few weeks’ time, the gut-feeling money will likely be on Phil to go 5-0, although Negreanu obviously disagrees…
