Paul Tate Avoids Jail Time In 'Black Friday' Case
A former employee of PokerStars, Paul Tate, avoided prison earlier this week after pleading guilty in the online poker 'Black Friday' case.
The former director of payments for PokerStars faced up to five years in prison. However, United States District Judge Lewis Kaplan gave Tate credit for "coming to face the music", instead of staying in the Isle of Man where he would have been able to avoid extradition. For that reason, Kaplan ordered Tate only to forfeit $119,000.
The 43-year-old Tate continued to work for PokerStars until 2014. He left the company after it was aquired by Amaya Inc.
Tate was one of 11 people indicted on April 15, 2011 and one case still remains open - against Isai Scheinberg. The PokerStars' founder has not come to face the music and is not expected to do so anytime soon.
