It's been a long time coming, but legendary WPT Commentator and Poker Hall of Fame member, Mike Sexton, has finally won his first World Poker Tour title.
This was the third final table on the tour for Sexton, who has been the voice of World Poker Tour since it's inception fifteen years ago. The third time proved to be the charm as Sexton topped a field of 648 entries to win the 2016 partypoker.net WPT Montreal $3,850 CAD no-limit hold’em main event.
The 69-year-old Sexton took home US$317,896 for his win and added his name to the list of WPT champions. In the heads-up play Sexton outlasted Benny Chen, who held the lead for most of the heads-up battle. However, Chen eventually found himself all-in for 8,150,000 with
against the pocket queens of Sexton.
Sexton flopped a top set and Chen failed to improve on turn or the river and had to settle with runner-up finish for a $213,500 payday. Sexton has also won a WSOP bracelet and this win takes his total live tournament earnings well over the $6 million mark.
