Erik Sagström Wins Planet Hollywood High Roller Event

According to the World Series of Poker website, Swedish high-stakes pro Erik Sagström has officially returned from his poker hiatus.

Sagström was seen in Las Vegas last weekend, where he registered "at the last possible moment" to the $5,300 buy-in No-Limit hold’em high roller event and ended up winning the whole thing for $65,000. The event was part of the WSOP circuit tournament series, that was played at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Sagström is truly one of the legends of the game, having allegedly started his career back in the day by depositing his high school graduation money to Paradise Poker and eventually turning it to $1 million.

In his post-win interview, Sagström revealed he has had a long break from poker, but is now back playing and plans to travel and play "a lot of poker tournaments". He has also been playing the huge cash games in Bobby's Room according to the interview:

“I’ve been doing a little of this and a little of that and then I came here,” said Sagstrom of his recent activity. “I wasn’t planning on playing much, but once you’re here, you get sucked in. Life is crazy and the degenerate that I am, I play all the time now.”

Sagstrom picked up a win in a no-limit hold’em event on Monday evening, but he considers himself to be a mixed game specialist. Most of his time spent on the felt is in ‘Bobby’s Room,’ playing some of the biggest cash games the world has to offer.

“It’s actually a mix of everything,” said Sagstrom of the cash games he plays in. “There is no-limit hold’em, there is pot-limit Omaha, there are stud games, there’s everything. The mix is four no-limit games and seven limit games. It’s everything. I feel pretty comfortable playing everything.”

The WSOP Circuit main event at Planet Hollywood was instead won by Sean Yu, who outlasted three-time bracelet winner Eli Elezra heads-up to win his second career ring and $170,286.
