August's 5 Biggest Pots
August has come and gone so let's take a quick look back at the five biggest pots played out at PokerStars highstakes tables. All five pots came from the PLO tables, with the three six-figure pots all coming from the $1k/$2k 8-Game tables, while the other two are from some heads-up $100/$200 action.
5. $77,709 - 18th August. Ike "philivey2694" vs Daniel "d2themfi" Isaacson, $100/200 PLO
This was the biggest pot from Haxton's $92.1k win over d2themfi two weeks ago when he was recovering from a $180k loss to Isaacson earlier in the week. In this pot Haxton gets lucky on the turn after calling a flop-bet with nothing but a gutshot straight draw. Having hit his draw Haxton gets check-called on the turn and river holding the nuts to take this $77.8k pot

4. $78,967, 24th August, Dani "supernova9" Stern vs BERRI SWEET - $100/$200 PLO
The second pot on our list from Stars $100/$200 PLO tables sees US pro Dani "supernova9" Stern beat the odds to take a big pot from his Swedish opponent BERRI SWEET in a match from last week where Stern ended up a near $70k loser, although this pot helped him to avoid a six-figure loss. In the pot Stern is well ahead pre-flop with AAKJ to BERRI SWEET's Kh3h4s10s but is a 3:1 dog after the 6h10h5s delivers BERRI an open-ended straight draw, a heart flush draw, and a pair. Any 2,3,4,5,6,7,10, K or heart would have been good enough for the Swede but despite two runs of the turn and river, he was unable to hit any of his many outs and supernova9 takes down this $79k pot

3. $111,859, 17th August, Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou vs bodamos, $250/$500 PLO
The first of three six-figure pots from the $250/$500 PLO round of some $1k/$2k 8-Game matches sees SamRostan get lucky on the river to scoop this $112k pot. After raising preflop with KhKdQd9s bodamos comes along from the big blind with Ah7hQs6c to see a 8h3h6s flop. After the Qd hits the turn bodamos is in good shape with two pairs and a higher flush draw than his opponent so he raises SamRostan all-in as a 3:1 favourite. However, the poker gods were not on his side this time as a King on the river gives SamRostan trips and the $111,859 pot

2. $131,741, Mikael "ChaoRen160" Thuritz vs Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn, 18th August, $250/$500 PLO
This pot took place again in a $250/$500 PLO round of a $1k/$2k 8-Game session, this time heads-up between ChoaRen160 and joiso. Mikael "ChaoRen160" Thuritz won the pot and was the day's biggest winner, posting a $110k profit. After the flop both players flop middle pair with a flush draw (joiso's is the higher draw). ChaoRen160 moves in front with two pair on the turn. The river gives joiso trips and he goes for broke as the flush draw misses. However, the river makes ChaoRen160 a full house and he scoops this $131,741 pot

1. $131,465, 18th August, Daniel "w00ki3z." Cates vs Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn, $250/$500 PLO
The biggest pot of the month was played out heads-up at the $1k/$2k 8-Game tables during a $250/$500 PLO round between Daniel "w00ki3z." Cates and Alexander "joiso" Kostristyn. joiso 3-bets preflop and continues betting out on the flop and turn. Having flopped a Q high flush draw and turned a set of Queens w00ki3z. raises all-in on the turn. With two flush draws and a pair (although one of his flush draws is dead) joiso calls as a 4:1 underdog. He doesn't upset the odds on the river and cates takes down the biggest pot of the month
