Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger is no stranger to success at the poker tables, having been a succesful high stakes online pro, an even more successful online tournament player, and an even more successful live tournament player with over $7.7m in live tourney winnings up until today. However, a WSOP gold bracelet had always eluded him, until today when he shipped Event #52 $3,000 NLHE for $569,158.
Lichtenberger had to overcome a huge 1,125 strong field packed with some of the finest poker minds in the business to finally take top a final table having made 7 previous unsuccessful WSOP final table appearances.
After a gruelling three long days and nights the tournament had to go into an unscheduled 4th day after the final table failed to wrap up last night. In fact, heads-up play only began today as the last hand from last night saw the end of Chris Johnson's campaign after he ran QQ into Lichtenberger's KK to lose his last 1.1m chips and the two remaining players (Lichtenberger and Australian Craig Blight) opted not to continue to the next level.
Lichtenberger started heads-up play with a comfortable 3:1 chip lead with 12.675m chips. Blight made slight inroads into Lichtenberger's stack, but the US pro never looked in any real trouble during the 40 hand contest, eventually winning after making the nut straight against Blight's two pair. Blight took home $351,721 for his biggest ever payday.
