ElkY Signs With Team Liquid for Hearthstone

The moment Daniel Negreanu beat Team Liquid's latest Hearthstone asset, Betrand "ElkY" Grospellier in an exhibition match last week

PokerStars pro and former StarCraft pro gamer Betrand "ElKy" Grospellier has been signed up by leading worldwide esports organisation Team Liquid as the latest addition to their Hearthstone division.

ElkY, who has $11m in live tournament cashes to his name had a successful career as a pro gamer prior to his transistion to poker, competing at the highest level at StarCraft: Brood War, StarCraft 2 and Warcraft 3. In fact, Grospellier had back-to-back top four finishes at the World Cyber Games in 2001 and 2002 and took gold at the Euro Cyber Games in 2013. He was also one of the few Western players to compete in Korea's prestigious OGN leagues.

With his esports prowess and his high pro poker profile, ElkY is obviously a great snare for Team Liquid, although it looks like he'll need to brush up on his Hearthstone skills as not only did he lose an exhibition match just over a week ago to fellow PokerStars pro, Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu; but he also lost his first two matches as a Team Liquid player, meaning he didn't make it past the first round at the Seat Story Cup - although as one of those matches was against the newly crowned world champion Sebastian "Ostkaka" Engwall we can't be too harsh on the rookie Hearthstoner.

ElkY will continue to fly the banner for PokerStars as a valued member of their roster of pros whilst also undertaking his Team Liquid obligations.
