Day 3 of the $25,000 mixed max event saw tables reduced to four handed play, the toughest of which was undoubtedly the one with Vanessa Selbst, JC Tran and Noah Schwartz all sat together. Of the 16 who started the day, four were needed to go through the heads up stage of this tournament and both Selbst and Tran managed to progress, along with Jason Mo and start of day chip leader Al Decarolis with stacks of:
Al Decarolis 3,435,000
JC Tran US 3,350,000
Jason Mo 2,510,000
Vanessa Selbst 525,000
Despite the huge chip deficit, Selbst went on to take out Decarolis, whilst Mo saw off Tran to set up the final match which will be played on Friday. Mo has the chip advantage with 5.86 million to Selbst’s 3.96 million, but nevertheless it still represents a great opportunity for Vanessa Selbst to claim her third WSOP bracelet.
The final game will be played at 2pm Vegas time with $538,308 guaranteed already for both players and $871,148 on offer for the winner.
Elsewhere in the Rio, day 2 of event 3 ($1,000 PLO) has come to a close with only six players left in contention. Youngest ever winner of a Vegas WSOP bracelet Steve Billirakis heads the final table which will return on Friday as follows:
Steve Billirakis 961,000
Brandon Shack-Harris 695,000
Matthew Ryan 604,000
Iori Yogo 575,000
Morgan Popham 303,000
Robert Paddock 250,000
The $10,000 deuce to seven limit triple draw championship event is also underway with a fairly high profile group of players making up the 120 entrants, including Doyle Brunson who initially said that he was going to pass on playing but then couldn’t keep himself away. It’s been fairly slow going on the opening day but once stacks start getting shorter we’ll see more players busting out and we’ll take a look at this event in more depth in tomorrow’s WSOP update.
