WPT Legends Of Poker
As we mentioned here a few days ago the WPT Legends Of Poker event at The Bike got off to a great start thanks to some off piste activity from Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti. Sadly the other 621 players in attendance seemed more interested in playing poker than acting like a teenage girl, and the total number of shoving matches never rose above one. Over the course of four days many players gained and then subsequently relinquished the chip lead until an official final table of six was reached with Josh Hale sitting on the big stack. On the final day it was Max Steinberg though who really picked up the action, eliminating Jeff Madsen, Greg Mueller, Ali Eslami and Raouf Malek until it was just him and Hale left to duke it out. 27 hands of heads up play later, during which Hale doubled up with a last gasp flush, Steinberg 3 bet all in pre flop only to find that Hale had an easy call with pocket jacks. Having upgraded to jacks full by the river, Hale took the title and a cheque for $500,000. For his second place Max Steinberg takes home $293,490.
High Stakes Action In Macau Again
Despite the disappointment of finishing second, for most people a cash for $293k still represents a monster payday. For others however, it merely covers the buy in to an even bigger tournament. Starting on August 31st, some of the wealthiest players in world poker will sit down at a tournament with a buy in of HK$2,000,000 (equivalent to US$257,860) making for an extremely hefty prize pool. And if anybody has a miserable first few levels you can always take an optional rebuy for the same amount again. The venue will be StarWorld Hotel in Macau which has been the site of the ultra high stakes cash games that have been making headlines in recent times. Macau regulars Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey and Sam Trickett have all confirmed that they will be back in town hoping to relieve some of the wealthy locals of their money.
Pokerstars WCOOP
For those of us sat at home clicking buttons instead of jetting off to Macau there is still a chance to hit the big time with the impending return of Pokerstars’ World Championship Of Online Poker. 65 events should offer something for everyone, and last year’s Pokerstars Radio seems to have been popular enough to ensure that it is back again this year. The online radio show will feature tournament updates, competitions and interviews hosted by Joe Stapleton, Nick Wealthall and Matt Broughton. Regular reviews of the action will also be brought to you here on www.highstakesdb.com
