takechip mounts his attack
After the end of another four levels of play the end of Day 3 at the PCA $10,300 Main Event we are down to just 64 players and have a new chip leader - PokerStars high stakes regular Phil "takechip" D'Autueil who more than trebled his Day 3 starting stack from 413k to a huge 1.472 million, overtaking Day 3 chip leader Faraz "The Toilet" Jaka in the process.
D’Auteuil had played a steady game from Day 1, finding himself comfortable in 7th place as Day 3 began but clearly he felt it was time to step on the gas. One pot in particular gave him a great boost, sending him over 700k chips from which he never looked back - it was anything but a sure thing though as he found himself all in versus Esteban Ripamonti holding 5c6c on a flop of AcQc5h against Ripamonti's 8h8s. Luckily for D'Auteuil the Kc popped up on the river after a meaningless Jd hit the turn and "takechip" raked in a cool 700,00 chip pot.
The bubble actually burst during the first level of play when Roberto Bermejo's Kings were cracked by Ruben Visser's turned top two pair (Jacks and Tens). Bermejo did have a chance to get away from the c.200k pot when his opponent raised his second barrel on the turn but he couldn't let go of the Cowboys and even check raised all in on the river only to lose in the most agonising position of them all...
Yesterdays leader Faraz Jaka continued to play well, never leaving the top five and finishing in third place after adding over 300k to his days starting stack to end on 1.22 million just behind Canadian Sam Greenwood who had the most impressive day of all, going from 168k chips to over 1.4 million, right on D'Auteuil's heels. Others with over 1 million chips at the end of Day 3 are; Alex Fitzgerald (1,154,000) and Anthony Gregg (1,129,000) and Kyle Julius (1,019,000).
Canada are well represented in this event holding the top two spots going into Day 4 and also having the honour of being the home country of the last surviving female entrant, Xian Liu who is sitting pretty on 680,000 chips in 16th place
More big names crashed out today, although the following at least beat the bubble and took something away from their three days work, including; Liv Boeree, Noah Boaken, November Niner Phil Collins, Carlos Mortensen and Randy "nanonoko" Lew. Although some name players including Barry Schulman and JC Alvarado made their exit before the bubble and walked away empty handed.
Still in contention are Barry Greenstein (379k chips) and also last years winner Galen Hall is still in the running, although with only 168k chips (the average is just over 500k) he will have his work cut out to make it much further.
We will update you as and when the Day 4 contenders have bagged up their chips and called it a night.
